Herbert Ord Van Horn, age 87, of Palm Coast, Florida, formerly of Cleveland, Georgia, passed away on January 22, 2009 at Florida Hospital Flagler after a short illness. He was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on September 21, 1921 to the late Samuel Clyde and Anna Van Horn.

Herbert was a WWII veteran and retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad where he was a car inspector. His favorite hobby was woodworking to include building houses. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Norma De Yarmon Van Horn in July of 2008, and a grandson, Derek Van Horn Fowkes, in November of 2008.

He is survived by two daughters, Margie Ann Ankrom (Bova) and Barbara Jean Gallagher (Mike), both of Palm Coast; three grandchildren, Christina Henson and Bo Ankrom of Palm Coast and Herb Ankrom of Los Angeles, California; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. S., Flagler Beach. His family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are asked to be sent to DAV 86, PO Box 359, Flagler Beach, FL 32136.
